What is biTjAM?

biTjAM started up in North Staffordshire three years ago after responding to a real need in the creative community for a space in which to explore music, creative ideas, collaborations and soundscape. it is now enjoying a monthly residency on the 1st Thursday of the month at The Rigger in Newcastle under Lyme.

The venue is the latest of a string of residencies which have inclue The Underground and The Fat Cats Cafe Bar in Hanley, but The Rigger is boasting what seems to be the best sound system of all the previous venues, and is as near perfect a venue they could ask for in terms of size for the events it seems.

bITjAM is the Midlands ONLY live improvised electronic orchestra,  where artists and musicians are invited to take part in live audio and visual composition. (Digital and acoustic musicians, animators, painters, vocalists, rappers and dancers attend Nights).

The core idea is to encourage ‘bedroom musicians and the sleeper artist’ to come out and create, collaborate and experiment in the public realm.

Artists who take part in bITjAM want to further develop links and ideas touched on during performances to take the work and their own development to the next level.

Carl Plant and Ben McManus are the main animators of the Bitjam, playing, organising, publicising, delivering workshops and digitally animating spaces.

They are aware that the main aim of biTjAM is about collaborating and sharing ideas, communication through sound and value of experimentation, and since its inception many years ago the biTjAM hs been involved in collaborations with visual artists from all over the midlands and are even welcoming guests from as far afield as Stockholm!!

The latest venture will be a Stoke on Trent Social Media Surgery as part of the Shop project which is a new space in Stoke Town, Stoke-on-Trent that transforms an empty shop into a venue for unusual and exciting performance, interventions and screenings.
