Laugh Out Loud Comedy, Regent Theatre – 23/10/2010

Comedy is currently enjoying something of a resurgence in the area, and this is due in no small part down to one man, Damion Larkin. An active gigging comedian, Damion set out to, in his own words, bring comedy to Stoke. He successfully hosted the first Laugh Out Loud Club night in The Britannia Suite back in May. Since then he has managed to host a string of evenings, which have all sold out, and the key to his success? Quietly brilliant talent.

So tonight’s bag of wonders includes the charming compare Kevin Shepherd. Witty and intelligent enough to be able to entertain the crowd with a mix of rehersed and off the cuff material, he takes great delight in explaining he’s a Christian because of his love of pancakes.

Secondly comes Dave Johns, a popular Geordie who tells us the empty seats at the front come to see him at every gig. His inconsistent style of joke telling makes for hilarious viewing.

Fashion conscious Henry Paker, who’s a regular writer for the likes of Ask Rhod Gilbert and 8 Out of 10 Cats was a breath of fresh air. With his unique observational comedy intertwined with his natural intelligence, he is as engaging as he is funny.

However, headline act Chris Ramsey was the undoubted champion of the evening. A jolly Geordie who put everyone off prunes for life (don’t ask!)

Another brilliant night at Stoke’s top comedy night, make sure to pen the next one in your diaries.
