Troops of Mafeking headline The Box

What must be one of the best unsigned rock outfits in the North West, Troops of Mafeking play a headline show tonight at The Box in Crewe. (Friday, March 11th)
Troops have it all – unforgettable anthems, high-level intensity, explosive live performances and the kind of tight-knit musicianship you only get when best mates form a band.
The Alsager-based four-piece return to Pedley Street to showcase their stunning new material, with support from indie-electro trio Sumo Kings, new Crewe outfit Dimension and Stoke’s The Get Alongs.
Possibly the best band to have emerged out of The Box over the past three years, Troops unleash the kind of musical soundscape that leaves your body jerking and mind reeling.
Their hard-riffing free-wheeling rock is a full-on overdose of captivating metal hooks and bass-driven energy.
And how more essential could this band be in these dark days of callow pop and insipid indie?
But they pack the kind of emotional punch that only hard-hitting English rock can deliver.
Well-observed songwriting lifts them head and shoulders above your average Nirvana wannabe into the realms of something new and vital like a gritty British version of Eagles of Death Metal.
The only mystery remains is why they have not been signed up by national agents – they are simply that good.
Troops of Mafeking are frontman Samuel Woolley, Sam Brugger on bass, Josh Jones on drums and Scott Hancock on guitar.
Doors open at 8pm. Entry is £5.
