Not the Royal Wedding at The Unicorn

Those who are not the biggest royalists in Stoke-on-Trent have probably heard enough already about the looming wedding.

But for anyone who is off work and at a loose end there is still hope of something to keep you entertained at The Unicorn in Hanley on April 29th.

Matt Taylor, licensee, has organised a street party with a difference, with his Not the Royal Wedding event.

It is a street festival with live music, a real scrumpy tent, barbecue and face painting for the kids. And for those who are interested in the Royal celebrations, there will be a TV inside pub.

Matt said: “I’m not the biggest fan of the Royal Family. So this is our way of celebrating with Will and Kate. Nobody else seemed to be planning anything here and I thought it would be a wasted opportunity not to use this pedestrianised street for a party.
“We’re hoping to create a real carnival atmosphere and to get people from around the local community to join in the fun.”

The line-up will include some am-dram performances from local theatre groups alongside sets by renowned acoustic musicians from around the area including Giro Junkie, Gareth Powell, Jason Lockett and Holly Lucas.

Not the Royal Wedding will take place from 12-8pm on Friday April 29 in Piccadilly, Hanley. It’s all free and there will also be free balloons for the kids!
