Joe Swash named as Regent’s New Panto Star

The Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent today announced a new pantomime star, a new producer team and a special one-off introductory ticket offer for this year’s pantomime, Aladdin.

TV star Joe Swash has been named as the new leading man for Aladdin, which opens at The Regent Theatre on 15 December 2011. 29 year old Joe shot to fame in 2003 playing the part of Mickey Miller in Eastenders and in 2008, he was crowned King of the Jungle when he won ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Earlier this year, Joe took part in BBC1’s Let’s Dance for Comic Relief with Caroline Flack where the duo performed My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas and he can currently be seen presenting the children’s show Gimme A Break on the CBBC Channel. Joe made his pantomime debut in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Bristol Hippodrome in 2009.

Speaking about his casting in Aladdin, Joe said: “I’m really excited about coming to Stoke-on-Trent this Christmas. I’ve heard great things about the city and the warm reception audiences give at The Regent. We’re going to have some fun with the panto this year! I look forward to meeting everyone soon.”

For more than a decade Regent Theatre pantomimes have become an essential part of Christmas offering all the ingredients for the perfect panto. This year’s panto mission remains as bold as ever! To provide a fantastically funny, traditional family pantomime packed with sensational songs, sparkling sets, hilarious comedy and lots of audience participation.

Aladdin also heralds the introduction of a new producer, the Liverpool-based company, Pele Productions Ltd. Husband and Wife team Viv and Jim Wells have been producing top musicals and pantomimes for the last 12 years.

Their production of The Wizard of Oz – which starred Judy Garland’s daughter, Lorna Luft – broke all box office records at Salford’s prestigious building The Lowry. They also specialise in pantomime and their unique combination of keeping within traditional boundaries but with a modern feel makes for a winning formula.

Pele shows include lots of audience participation and current chart hits that everyone can sing along to. Their productions have included stars of today such as John Bishop, Sugababe Heidi Range, Shane Lynch, Brian Capron, Susie Blake, Amanda Barrie, Paul Nicholas and many more.

To ring in the changes, Pele Productions have teamed up with The Regent Theatre to offer panto fans a special one-off introductory ticket offer of just £15 per ticket throughout the entire run of Aladdin. To take advantage of this special offer, tickets must be purchased by 30 June 2011 (maximum of 8 tickets per booking).

Viv Wells, Associate Producer, Pele Productions Ltd, said: “We are really excited to be producing Aladdin in Stoke. It’s a fabulous venue and we are very much looking forward to working alongside this great team at The Regent Theatre. We’ve heard that the Stoke audiences like lots of laughs and we can guarantee to deliver a show that will leave everyone with that ‘feel good’ factor!”

Mike Keane, General Manager, Stoke-on-Trent Theatres Ltd, said: “Pantomime is great fun for the whole family and is a traditional part of the festive celebrations, so we’re delighted to be announcing this exciting new partnership with Pele Productions and a fresh new line up for the 2011/2012 season.”

Aladdin runs at The Regent Theatre from 15 December 2011 to 15 January 2012.
