Above The Underground make their long awaited return to Crewe’s music scene with a headline slot at The Box this evening from 7:30pm. The band have defended pop punk alongside the likes of scene bigwigs, Set Your Goals, A Loss For Words and Elliot Minor. New Romantics also return in support with debuts for both White Eskimo and Aeris. Tickets are £5.

Stoke Gigs Needs You!

Since its conception in early 2010, Stoke Gigs has come a long way. We can proudly boast that we are now one of the biggest local music sites in Stoke! We’ve taken part in the Guardian Student Media Awards 2 years running, been involved in local music competitions as well as the UKs biggest music festival, Oxjam, and even hosted our own club nights.

We have forged strong links with local venues and artists, but it’s simply not enough! We’re now looking to expand even further, but we need your help!

Propoganda comes to Stoke

Propaganda has long been hailed the UK’s biggest indie night, and has managed to attract an impressive 20,000 people a week to its 20 club nights across 4 countries. The brand have recently signed up several new clubs, and The Sugarmill, in Hanley, are one of it’s newest recruits.

Gig Guide Friday 22nd – Friday 29th July

Stuck in a rut? Not sure what to do? Luckily here at Stoke Gigs, we’ve covered all bases and got this weeks entertainment all wrapped up for you…

This Saturday and Sunday the Stoke Punk and Ska Fest returns to The Green Star in Smallthorne. 25 bands will take to the stage in total over the two days including The Grit, One Way System, Rough Kutz and Roughneck Riot. A weekend pass for the event is £22, or day tickets are available, £15 Saturday and £11 Sunday admission. There is a large free car park, camping is available, along with food and trade stalls. Tickets are available from the venue and doors open at 12pm.

Bowling For Soup to play Victoria Hall

Hot on the heels of the recent Slash and Morrissey announcements, The Victoria Hall in Stoke-on-Trent, has announced that US pop-punk band Bowling For Soup will play a gig at the venue on Sunday 23 October 2011, along with Special Guests.

The band is best known for its singles Girl All the Bad Guys Want, Almost, High School Never Ends and 1985 and they have released 11 studio albums since their formation in 1994.

Tickets are £19.50 and go on sale tomorrow (Friday 17th June) at 9am from The Box office online or by telephone on 0844 871 7649

The Sugarmill wins NME’s best small venue

The Sugarmill have recently topped a poll from leading music magazine the NME as best small music venue in the Midlands.

The Stoke-on-Trent venue beat a number of other clubs such as The Rescue Rooms in Nottingham and Custard Factory in Birmingham as part of a public vote which aims to highlight the UK’s best small venue.

Promoter Dan Nixon said “We are extremely proud to have topped the poll as the best small venue in the midlands. It is wonderful to be recognized by a respected music magazine such as the NME and the fact that it was the public who voted us into this position really means so much. To the people who voted: we salute you!”

 

Joe Swash named as Regent’s New Panto Star

The Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent today announced a new pantomime star, a new producer team and a special one-off introductory ticket offer for this year’s pantomime, Aladdin.

TV star Joe Swash has been named as the new leading man for Aladdin, which opens at The Regent Theatre on 15 December 2011. 29 year old Joe shot to fame in 2003 playing the part of Mickey Miller in Eastenders and in 2008, he was crowned King of the Jungle when he won ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

All The Young headline The Underground

Stoke’s newest signed band, All The Young, make their return to The Underground on Saturday (21st May), following support slots with Brother, The Wombats and The Twang to name a few.

The local indie band will fly out to Canada next month to put the finishing touches to their debut album, and they’re supporting a musical icon too.

Morrissey to play Victoria Hall

Due to phenomenal demand, former frontman of The Smiths, Morrissey, has added three additional shows to his summer UK tour taking in theatres across the UK.

These extra dates will see Morrissey visit Stoke’s Victoria Hall on Tuesday 5th July 2011, with lead support from uprising local stars All The Young, who have been championed by The Sun’s bizarre pages, NME and BBC Radio 1, amongst others.

Six Towns The Chase

You may have heard that Soundhouse Productions are taking charge of Six Towns, an excellent local band, who visited The Fat Cat Cafe Bar in Hanley last week to film their debut video for The Chase.
